New Firmware that improves Remote Update, Pfal,Cnf.Set roboustness improved, alarm loading, GSM, PFAL Backup, Dynamic protocols, events, states and GSM AT commands.

Please contact your executive to get data files and documentation.

(Please note that this firmware update is not for FOX-IN devices)

Version: 2.6.8_final with the BIOS version 1.7

Important:

1) Updating from the firmware version 2.5.10, 2.5.11 or 2.5.12 to 2.6.8_final does not work. A patch firmware (2.5.12_rc7) should be flashed at first to be able to flash the 2.6.8_final and higher.

2) Firmware versions 2.5.xx are only for AVL devices with SiRF GPS receiver.

3) All AVL devices with 8MB Flash will run only with the firmware version 2.6.xx The 7th and 8th digits of the serial number or production ID of the unit should be:

10 or higher for STEPPIII

05 or higher for FOX

04 or higher for BOLERO-LT

4) All AVL devices with 2MB flash are compatible with the firmware version 2.5.xx (not compatible with the firmware 2.6.xx)

5) When upgrading the FW with the extension .frp, please use the Workbench version 2.6.2_RC7 or higher. To upgrade the firmware with the extension .bin you can use the old Workbench version 2.4.1_rc9 or any terminal software (example: Hyper terminal, Pcomm Pro).

6) After upgrading the Firmware the device should be restarted. After restarting the AVL device, execute the command PFAL,Sys.Device.RestoreBios for upgrading the BIOS software.

7) Downgrading from the firmware version 2.6.8_final to a lower version, the user configuration will be erased.

After upgrading the firmware 2.6.8_final and configuring the unit, you can execute the command PFAL,Cnf.Backup to save the user configuration as factory settings. If the AVL device was already configured, you can execute the

same command after the firmware update to save the user configuration as factory settings.

Changes for PFAL commands /User interfaces

- Remote Update

- GSM Modem is switched off and on after firmware update

- BIOS 1.7 added

- Extended reset reasons for Watchdog testing purposes only

reset,watchdog0 – BIOS hw watchdog

reset,watchdog1 – avl FW watchdog 1

reset,watchdog2 – avl FW watchdog 2

reset,watchdog3 – avl FW watchdog 3

- Pfal,Cnf.Set roboustness improved

- Debug infos removed to speed up loading alarms during start (when PFAL,CNF.Set,DBG.EN=1)

- GSM

- eMCC event is shown correctly

- Mechanism of the operator selection improved

- PFAL command

- PFAL,Cnf.Backup added

- PFAL,Cnf.Restore added

- Dynamic protocols

-&(MONI) can be used in PFAL commands again

- it is strongly NOT recommended to use this dynamic protocols in alarm actions

- Events

- Sys.Info.e0

- Sys.Info.e1

- States

- GPS.Nav.sDeltaspeed<comparator><number> added

- Improvements

- GSM AT commands handling optimized

Known issues:

• Error outputs when dialing or accepting voice calls.

• These outputs have no effect on the voice calls or the device functionality which can be ignored.

• When dialing voice calls –> “$GPERROR:GSM: CmdErr 1″ will be outputted

• When accepting voice calls –> “$error accepting call” will be outputted. However, the device accepts the call and generates the event “GSM.Voicecall.eEstablished”.

Release notes for the BIOS in the AVL devices

BIOS 1.7

Note: After upgrading the Firmware the device should be restarted. After restarting the AVL device, execute the command PFAL,Sys.Device.RestoreBios for upgrading the BIOS software. BIOS software is inside the firmware version package. The Bios version 1.7 supports now the feature “Sys.Device.ChargeSleep“.
